you're right the problems will be primarily in that area. the thing referring to was around the line with "Compute view access permissions", event-model->category_access. But don't think that will be to much of a hassle in this case.

Maybe Joomla itself can help a bit

Definately. In a lot of standard functions of Joomla there will be an article. or category (catid) being passed too. With single-cat it can be used very easy.
--> The modify right things will be something for next year.

finally all my tests passed so I had send my changed files to Jojo (via Night-Express ) so I'm sure it will find the way to you for review.

One thing amazing me was an empty "My Venues" list - until I remembered my discussion with Diesl in topic Can't see venues without events + Fix (the "showlocate" related part). Locally patched and it was fine.
