Event Registration with Role Selection

We use the event component to coordinate the performances of our volunteer-based organization. In doing so, we have slightly adapted the original purpose of the component, as we do not offer traditional ticket sales. In addition to our actors who sign up for an event, we also have technicians, makeup artists, and our event organization team involved.

Currently, the component only allows for general event registration, without distinguishing whether a person is participating as an actor, technician, or makeup artist. We have already tested the existing comment function, but it is not really suitable for this purpose.

Now, thinking about the standard event component again: Is there perhaps an idea for the future to introduce different "ticket categories" for an event? This would be very helpful for us, as we could then create appropriate categories for the different helper roles.

This is a highly requested feature: the ability to reserve different types of tickets. For example:

Theaters: Orchestra, Pit and Mezzanine seating
Meetings: Members, Non-members
Doc Projects: Volunteers (writers), Managers, Editors, Photographers
Dance Classes: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Professional
Special Events: Actors, Technicians, Makeup Artists

I think this would be a great feature to add to JEM in future versions.

Here’s an idea for your case—let me know if this is good for you:
EVENT 1 offers multiple ticket types:
X places for Actors
Y places for Technicians
Z places for Makeup Artists

Each category can have its own access level (ACL, defaulting to Public): Registered, Public, Special, or custom types.
This ensures users can only book places permitted for their access level. However, if all ticket options are set to Public, users may freely choose any available ticket type.

The new features is complex, and they will need time to do it. I can not tell you when it will be included, but I like it. It will give a new level to JEM.

No, to users, it's just like buying a theater, sports, or concert ticket (just like standard event booking platforms). They only need to select one additional option: their ticket type (or seat category).

Yes, the backend handles all the complexity .... the system logic is sophisticated. This is the big step, complete redesign of the ticketing system (code + configuration + testing).
