What happend to JEM 3.05?
What happend to JEM 3.05?
6 years 10 months ago
Hi there,
some time ago I've installed JEM 3.0.5 (no idea where I got it from).
Now I have some problems with the update to Joomla 3.8.5 and I want to check the components etc.
I noticed, that I have JEM 3.0.5, but it seems, that this version does no longer exists.
Question: What should I do now? Stay at 3.0.5? Install 2.2.x? If I should move to 2.3.x: What is the best way?

Hello Merlin,
JEM 3.x were development versions, and never 'officially' released through this site. You may have downloaded it thought Github.
JEM 3 was mainly (only) developed by Bluefox. There are some good features in it, but from what I know it lacks multi-category tagging for events.
The team has decided to move forward with JEM 2.x and keep it backwards compatible with Joomla 2.5. Off course there will be a point where JEM will only be Joomla 3 and 4 compatible.
Alas there are database-inconsistencies between JEM 2 and JEM 3.
I have never switched between the 2, but I can think of the following 2 options:

I have never switched between the 2, but I can think of the following 2 options:
- Install JEM 2 on a test site, do a full database-structure comparison, modify JEM 3 until database is 100% identical and then copy all tables from JEM 3 to JEM 2. They will have to reside on 2 different sited because they can not be installed alongside.
- Export Categories, Venues and Events form your current JEM 3 and import them in JEM 2.

my proposal (after backups) is:
update to JEM 3.0.7, because this only has in settings the button "clean db on uninstall"
go to JEM>settings>global params and choose clean db on uninstall=Yes
export events, categories, venues and catevents from JEM 3 to CSV. Perhaps you have to export images too, if you need them.
then uninstall JEM 3 and all JEM plugins and modules via extension manager, search JEM and choose them.
Then you should be able to install JEM 2.2.3
Perhaps you compare exported files from JEM 2.2.3 with the exported from JEM 3 and adapt.
Then import with replace if ID exists =yes
(if not the categories and venues have other ID, which will create problems.
