Events around position (for example 5 km around my hometown)

Hey guys,
there should be a way to search for events around a special adress? Didn´t see the possibility but without, JEM makes no sense (for me)... There are to many events in the whole country, every day.

Like that we have mo solution. But perhaps you can do something with the regoons. You can decife yourself which region
But then you need the venueslist. There are some honts to create that on this forum.

Don´t you think that this function is indispensable for an event manager? No one needs informations about events which take place 300km away...
Is it that difficult to implement this feature in your in principle very helpful tool. I don´t think I´am the only one who can´t use the JEM without this feature.

I think implementing this feature is a bit hard and mathmatical.
You need to get the coordinates of a venue. For that you need an address -> GPS coordinate transformation. Eventually GoogleMapsAPI can do that for you.
As next step, you need the coordinates of the user e.g. also via GoogleMapsAPI
The third task would be to calculate the distance between those two coordinates.
Next step: compare the distance with the "maximum far away from me"-distance
At last, just show the leftover events.

All these steps have to been done for all events within less milliseconds. Otherwhise the user has to wait very very long to see results...

I really like the idea, and it would be a great function with all the mobile users in mind. ('show me all events in my area').

But like Egnatrs is pointing out: It will require quite a lot of development. We don't have the capacity to develop this at the moment, and other matters have higher priority.

Ok such things can be interesting for some people: "where can I get my beer?"

I think we are getting more and more special wishes. If we add them all in one package, JEM will become more and more slowly.
So we will need a possibility to add such things using plugins. So each admin can decide which capabilities he will use in his site and which one he will disable!
