Upgrading from EventList 1.0.2 Stable in JEM

It is not very clear to me one thing.
If I want to import from EventList 1.0.2 to Jem 3 you can do (when Jem 3 will be ready) but if I upgrade from EventList 1.0.2 to Jem 2.1 (with imports), when Jem 3 will be available, I can import from Jem 2.1 to Jem3?
In this case (Jem 2.1. to Jem3) are talking about upgrading or just import?

JEM is independent from EL (e.g. uses it's own db tables) so you could run both parallel. So we talk about Import because all content is imported from Eventlist's db tables into JEM's db tables.

But JEM 2 and JEM 3 use the same tables so in that case it's an update.

Currently the update from JEM 2 to JEM 3 is not complete but the plan is to have it stable when JEM 3 becomes stable. (Bluefox may correct me but that's my understanding / hope )
