Introduction of a language

I am not sure what I am missing but I don't know how to introduce another language than english. I already donwloaded the German translation file. But now? How do I change to the German language?

Welcome to the forum, where users help users.
Changing to another language is similar to all other Joomla extensions:
1. Download and install the language pack
2. Change the default language setting of your site to German. (you can change frontend and backend independent of each other)

Which Joomla version are you using?

I did install the German language file and German is selected as default not only for the site but also for the administrator area, but I still get the English description of the fields. How to change this?

I use Joomla 3.7.2

Hmm.. that's really strange. So all of your site is German, except for the JEM component?
If that's the case I can only recommend to de-install and re-install the language pack...

I guess I found the error. I used the German language file for Switzerland for the site. Now, I have installed the German file for Germany and everything works just fine.
