Handling of images

Handling of images

I would like to see a different handling of image upload. Now a user has to resize an image on his own computer to fit the max file size. (Which is annoying for an average user) I would rather like to see that the system would resize on file upload, so you can set a fixed size of the (large) image, not just the thumbnail. I want have all the images above the event the same size, so there's consistency in the display of the event.

There's also an other disadvantage of the file upload the way it's handled now: if a user uploads a file and decides to change the image before saving the event, there will be an orphaned file on your server. Or if you delete an event, the files remains on the server.I did a check on my site: there were more than 6000 files on the server (I have more than 16000 events over several years). Checking the files against the database I found 750 orphaned files taking up more than 125 mb of useless disk space.

Thirdly: the filename is now the name of the file of the user, with a unique id added to the name. This makes it hard to find and reuse an image, if filenames are like 17112016_832466352.jpg or img-20160427.png

I would suggest uploading the file on event-save and then renaming the file to the alias of the event and resizing it to predefined dimensions.

Thank you @jojo12. Sorry to bump in with a large feature request.
It's been some time that I've posted here. In the meantime I've been a heavy JEM user on www.ugenda.nl (900+ users, 5000+ events per year) I hope to participate more in this forum from now on.

@stevent: I know and like your site using JEM. And I appreciated your earlier help to include bigger images. Because of that, I can really good understand your feature request.
The actual problem ist: our devs are very silent. I hope, it's only because of the real life, and they will come back.
Me, I am not a developer, so I can't help here.

it's indeed quiet at the moment but real-life/work does have priority.

@stevent just to note: am currently not a dev (it's up to others).
and good to know you are around :)

that said: will take a peak at this one.
The thing is that I'm having a custom version of JEM and there i did modify the uploading part so maybe a bit of that can be used. Won't commit to Github but will expirement locally to see if the things you want can be achieved.

@stevent: your thirdly: there can be a problem with the rights of the images. If different people in frontend who can post events with images and others can find and reuse these images, who will be responsible if an image is stolen with no permission to post? Now it's clear I think: the creator of the event whp uploaded the image is responsible.
