Venue entering on the fly
9 years 7 months ago
Sometimes you're entering an even (this is the backend - haven't checked the front) and you realize you don't have the venue entered for it.
Can we have an "add venue on the fly" option after clicking "Select venue"? I seem to remember the old version had it (at least one event component I used did).
Thanks.

Hi trogladyte,
somewhere (maybe internal) we already talked about this in the team. I understand the use-case but I don't have a good idea how to implement this without a lot "special case" code. The main problem is if you choose a venue you're in a popup which is "child" of (edit)event view. Creating a venue will make (edit)venue view "child" of this popup which is "child" of (edit)event view. So we have to ensure having no conflicts with these two cascaded edit views/models - an awkward thing.

Hi Hoffi
OK, I get the whole child thing. As a sort of workaround, where it has the "Venue" link, could you add an "Add venue" link beside or below that pops up the add venue form? So then you aren't getting into the child within a child scenario. Would that work? That would save having to leave the add event page.
Cheers

Hi Trogladyte,
you're right EL did had that option but it was stripped as it wasn't clear at that time of how to easily update that code to a new format. But now months/years later it ain't a big problem to add it. It can be added as a seperate button after venue-select or something like that.
// am moving this topic to FR //

I added a "TBD" (to be determined) category on the old EL that served me well in two ways:
1. Oops, I don't have a venue yet.
2. We have a legitimate date, but no venue decided yet. This served to reserve the calendar spot so that folks would at least think twice about stacking events on the same date.

Was there any further internal team discussion on this? As I suggested, below the "Venue Select" link, you could add a "Venue Add" link which pops up the creation form. I know Hoffi's workaround can work but computers should be abvout efficiency. Thanks.
