with that I mean a select box that an event creator can tick so no new registrations are possible

Long time ago I had the idea to provide a registration period - like publish up / publish down.
Not what you mean but same direction.

Not sure what happens if "Allow registration" is switched off. Maybe already present registrations kept untouched?
