Feature requests for JEM 2.0 - initial public release
"Add category" at front end
Re: Add category at front end

I moved it here, I hope in the right category.
I understand your need, but I am not sure if this makes sense. Or will it need then more ACL possibilities like in joomla content (author, editor, publisher...)

You already have "Add venue". Why would "Add category" make less sense?

A venue is content where a category helps to organise content - but anyway, I agree it could be useful and there is a sense, no question.
But when providing this we must think deep about rights management. Categories are an important part of that.
So I fear implementation will become a bit more complicated than expected. I don't say it's impossible but it may take a bit longer to have a clean and secure implementation.

@Hoffi
just thinking:
- it will need a controller
- a model
perhaps by extending from the backend
- a view or file in existing view
something like editcategory? this way it's possible to use the view in the future too if we want to give people the option to edit category's.
- a form, for the form-fields
and then the question who may or can publish add the categories. perhaps we just check if it's the admin and the rest for later.
It's not possible for the moment but it is possible to create the option.don't know if it is possible to create a Joomla! category on frontend.

@ Hoffi & BlueFox
Thank you both for your replies. I'm no programmer, so don't know what I just asked for in terms of programming. However, I do see this as something that could be useful in certain cases ( like mine!!).
Thanks for a great component!

Re: Add category at front end
10 years 7 months agoI know I will get not many frieds now but for me the complete feature sounds as "after JEM 2.0". :blush:Bluefox wrote: and then the question who may or can publish add the categories. perhaps we just check if it's the admin and the rest for later.
I know it's an interesting task and we can immediately start implementing it with zeal - but then other tasks keep pending and our first stable version will stays a dream...
But I fully agree to put it on the wishlist and also to realize it - but please a bit later.
