Category including addresses

Category including addresses

In my working area (NGO's) I "misused" the EventList "Categories". Instead of categorizing "rock, country, hiphop" I need to show different organizers/organizations responsible for the event (eg. UN, WHO, ILO, UNESCO). So I renamed "categories" into "organizers".

And then there is a need for their addresses, of course, to give the visitor the chance to contact that organizers for further information etc. Until now, I entered address details into the field "description" and had to change its title in detail view and lot of work.

So I really would welcome, if the address fieldset (incl. e-mail, url, map) from "venue" could be added to "category" as well.

Sorry, to come that late with this wish, but I am using the component for quite a while that I almost forgot its original meaning.

Happy to hear from you.

Herbert

Hm, I am not a fan of this idea.

If we start with this, where will it end? Every user has different needs and wishes that are not 100% doable with standard JEM.

But implementing everything makes JEM fat and heavy, I think this is not the way to go.

What's wrong with adding it in the category description? You have to do this once only as IMHO.

There are automatically links provided to the venue site - which in most of my cases is only a rented place by the organizers of the event. To contact them makes no sense to my clients.

So it would be nice to have a website link to the organizer instead, without the need to activate the description topic with its fat header and always saying "no description" if the field was left empty.

Either that or you can work on the latter: do not display empty fields by filling them with disappointing message "no description" - what benefit does this have to the reader/visitor of my website?

And btw. I do not know where it will end. I only know that it will never end in IT business...

As a perfectionist I tend to the more the better, and comparing even the untreated EventList with its lousy competitors, I would like to contribute to the best Event component available.

:-)

An empty description field is not displayed in JEM. So at some time you switch and have the solution ;)

Sure

It does not make sense everywhere. But thanks for the flowers ;)

@Herkle

for now:
if you want the extra field names you could consider to add the custom fields manually. It will require some php editing & altering of a table. or add a link to a contact, wich will point to the com_contact form.
