Hi Mark,

some info before I'm offline next few days:

The bugtracker was an idea as far as I remember, but it was never really used. Instead we use GitHub for code and issue tracking. Internal discussions are in an internal forum. Also we use the tasklist you can't access where we collect ongoing things which will be copied to Changelog when a new version has released.

The ACL task has finished as far as currently planned. There could be more but that's for the future. But merging JEM 2.x and 3.x repositories is no good idea because both gone into different directions.

Regarding the edit views there are only little differences against Joomla's edit view.. We show the Status to authors and editors too, but it's disabled and only for information. If your users are able to change the publishing state you gave them too many permissions - or they must learn to become smart publishers. Only the "Featured" field is shown and changable to/by all like authors, editors, publishers, and admins. But this field has nearly no effect on most sites.

Yes, the mantis bugtracker was my idea. It is more powerful but github issues are much easier to use and better integrated of course. So there is no clear winner. But as Hoffi said, we never really used it.

@ernst: To avoid confusion, we should remove it.

The menu link should be changed to github issues, or a subforum dealing with bugs. Not sure what is better for the normal user.

Of course it is possible, JEM is an open source project. We are happy about every new developer :)
You can clone the project at github, make changes and create a pull request.

The master branch is the main branch you should use.
