is it possible to change from redevent to JEM?
is it possible to change from redevent to JEM?

Hi,
I had a contact of a user who used for a long time eventlist. Because there was no update for Joomla 2 (and 3) he changed to redevent. Now he would like to go further to JEM 2.1.1 or JEM 3.0.6. Is there someone who has experience with that. I only know, redevent is a fork of eventslist too.

no experience with it but would say that it won't be that easy.
this as the tables are different and we do have other fields/columns.
didn't take a look at redevent for a while as it requires registration and all kind of info. that said: maybe there is a version around that can be downloaded easily and if so I'm willing to take a look at it.
think it won't be that difficult to migrate but if would be good if the person knows how to work with phpmyadmin.

No experience too.
redEvent is for free but one needs to click through the confusing shop and register with a lot of unneeded data incl. postal address and phone number - such sites I leave immediately as long as I don't will pay something and fully trust them.
If redEvent provides an export function as JEM (was this in EL too?) it could be possible to export, manually adapt and then import into JEM. Alternatively export could be made directly by phpMyAdmin.
Another way could be to write a separate migration component or integrate import option for redEvent into JEM. Both require knowledge about how data are stored in db and file system (images, attachments, ...) and if there are features we don't support. And, of course, a lot of time to write it.
Because redEvent is based on EL the first way could be the easier one.

hmm, did take a quick peak at the install.sql of redevent but think it will be complicated.
there seems to be a csvtool-view but not sure what it does, don't like to install the component at te moment (no time to test).

Thanks. My question was not a wish. only to know.
I think. people who knew eventlist, will come to JEM, when they will know, that it exists!

I have experience with redEvent. Their first version was a full copy of Eventlist.
Version 2 is a complete re-work. Most important change is that they split event info from event-occurance. A very good approach, which I have already recommended more than a year ago in this post . I still hope we will eventually go that way. It decreases the abount of redundant data drastically, gives much more flexibility and allows the most complex recurrence with almost no effort.
The pityful thing is that redEvent V2 was full of bugs, otherwise I would certainly have gone for them. I even paid 2 years of subscription, but the bugs remaied
So, @Jojo, if your contact is on redEvent V2, it is very unlikely he can easisy swap. If on V1, it's a breeze.... Just export and import
