Setting-up a demo?

Setting-up a demo?

Just wondering:
- would it be something to set-up a demo at this moment?
- If yes, does anyone has an idea how to do that?

We can:
- "simply" install a version of Joomla 2.5.x
- install the jem components & modules
- allow front-end access to submit-events/venues
- normal template

This way people can get a impression, but people also want to see the back-end. At the moment it's possible to allow "manager" access to the component but do we want that?.

ofcourse it has to be a seperate username & database so it will not give trouble with the normal database.

Yes, at some point we need a demo. For now I would prefer to have people download the dev. versions and test themselves, but as soon as 2.0 is out there should be a demo on the site.

Do you see this as a separate Joomla setup? The site is running on 2.5
A demo with demo-venues and demo-events would be great. Best would be if it resets every 12 hours. Backend access is needed too.
Modules, CB integration. Pfff... lots of work!

A quick search gave me this result:
www.phil-taylor.com/2008/08/18/creating-a-joomla-demo-site-the-right-way/

But I can tell you that won't work as you already mentioned you do not have cronjob support.

You also have to face that there are many security risks ...

I think for the beginning a plain frontend demo installed at a fresh Joomla page is really sufficient. Even there we have to disable file upload, for example.

Think so too, and there are security things to consider. So yep i would consider a seperate install of Joomla, db, username, etc.. File upload has to be disabled, maybe allow upload of images so people..

It can be added at demo.joomlaeventmanager.net or something like that, ah well something to think off.

@jojo
about the video/diashow: i think poeple do want to know the feeling of the script and it's better to make a live demo.

@bluefox:
if they want the feeling, they could install it after saving the old site.
Only question is: How is the uninstall? I never tried. Should be good too.
