with the "default (responsive style)" layout style:

with "legacy (table style)" layout style:

… and – maybe that is the issue – you also need the "default_events_table.php" file!. It checks the settings and chooses then "default_jem_eventslist_small.php" or "default_jem_eventslist.php"
