Thank you for making more clear. First I thought, this is a solution for werner100.
@all: I think. we need experts here!
@werner100: you updated from an earlier JEM 3.0.7 too?

Loud thinking:
The error notice is speaking about the changings we have in JEM 2.2 with the non attending possibilities!
You can try So it should be possible to install a fresh JEM 2.1.6, then import the files from JEM 3.0.7 and after to update to JEM 2.2.0
But I can't try it.

Am not sure what those instructions were, but the error notice is stating that the field "status"is missing from the table "jem_register". If you have access to phpmyadmin or something like that then you can add the missing field manually.
There can also be some other changes that are being overlooked.
Maybe it's possible for the current devs to create a solution so the people who did had the JEM3.x version installed are able to export the files in a way so it can be imported without error notice.

I am experiencing the same problem, only it is even worse. I uninstalled JEM 3.0.2 and installed JEM 2.2.0. Upon going to component -> JEM -> events I receive the error:
Basically I can't even use JEM because of this. I tried clearing expired cache through joomla and reinstalling, no luck. Can anyone please help, this plugin is the backbone of my site and now its totally broken
UPDATE
Whoop... Well I just discovered the 'Housekeeping" tool, and deleted all JEM data. Looks like this might've fixed it, I'll update...
SECOND UPDATE
Well I can get into events now but when I add an event I get the same error.
1054 Unknown column 'status' in 'field list' SQL=SELECT COUNT(id) as total, COUNT(IF(status = 1 AND waiting <= 0, 1, null)) AS registered, COUNT(IF(status = 1 AND waiting > 0, 1, null)) AS waiting, COUNT(IF(status = -1, 1, null)) AS unregistered, COUNT(IF(status = 0, 1, null)) AS invited, event FROM #__jem_register WHERE event IN (671,670) GROUP BY event

@gradym
not sure if one of the current devs did see this topic but will try to help out
First of all: did you make a backup?
files / images/ tables etc...
Not sure if it's helpfull but you may send me a pm. If possible, and if you want you can give backend access so i can see the error in action. If remembered correctly there is an option in the backend of JEM, settings view, that can be ticked to delete all tables upon install of JEM. When not ticked the tables will not be deleted.
--> but be carefull as when that option is ticked an JEM is uninstalled the tables and your data will be deleted so be very carefull and always make a good backup.
p.s.
If you have access to phpmyadmin then the error notice can be quickly resolved.
