What i mean with that is that you can define in the back the filters you want to have for the view. Like having all filters enabled in eventslist-view, but not all of them in the category-events view.

Sp do you mean a setting per view, or a general setting?

What do you mean with icons? Images? Or do you mean to add a legend/caption?

About the filtering: I think it's not generally a bad idea, but things get quite special. What I mean is that we have to pay attention not to get too many settings. Otherwise it could get too complicated for the average user in the long run.

yes, small images that can be placed in the legend or eventcontent of the calendar.
