(SOLVED] 1054 Unknown column 'places' in 'field list'

Starting point Joomla 3.10.12 with JEM 2.3.6
Uninstall JEM 2.3.6 keeping the DB intact
Upgrade Joomla to 4.3.3
Install JEM 4.0.0
JEM control panel shows 54 published, 415 archived, 4 unpublished and 2 trashed events
Categories list is OK
Venues list is OK
Klik on "Events" --> 1054 Unknown column 'places' in 'field list'

Via phpMyadmin i see 588 entries (ID's) in the jem_events table

What should I look for ?

I had a look at the DB – there is only one column called "places". It is in the table "XX_jem_register" (XX is the DB Prefix).
Please check in the DB if it is there.

The xxx_jem_register table is empty
The columns are :
id event uid uregdate uip waiting status comment

On another website with JEM 4.0.0 I see the columns:

id event uid places uregdate uip waiting status comment

Should I reinstall JEM 4.0.0 to get the column 'places' created ?

You did "Uninstall JEM 2.3.6 keeping the DB intact" and that might work, but:
From the upgrade instructions :
"Disable all JEM extensions, component, all JEM plugins, all JEM modules. DON'T uninstall!"

If you have full access to your database (maybe via phpmyadmin) and the one that works fine, you could try to add the column in phpmyadmin / your database as it exists in the other database. But I am not sure whether there are more problems to fix.
Just re-/overinstalling might not work if your database tells the install scripts the new version while it has (partly) an old structure. Maybe that could work if you reset the version info of the database.

Of cause, in your situation you could try once again from the very beginning using your backup from the old system and follow the steps mentioned above in the upgrade instructions closely.

I'm curious to know, what is the difference, if JEM is uninstalled or not, it the DB stays untouched …

In my opinion, I would like to make it work both ways … I'll check it out.
